The main hurdles are now complete; we just have to tackle the big one!
I am working to establish my long-term hobby into a proper 501c3 Non Profit, with the goal of taking tax-deductible donations, sponsorships, grants, and premium subscription sales to raise funds and pay people: writers, artists, audio engineers, and more.
There's a lot to figure out still, but we're hoping to do a big crowdfunding push soon!-

deutrino (deutrino@mstdn.io)'s status on Monday, 25-Mar-2024 01:44:11 JST deutrino @deadsuperhero this is very inspiring to see as a ne'er-do-well with aspirations of doing similar with @surfhosting and/or @fediseeds if I can ever get stable enough to do so. I am grinding slowly towards that goal and will be watching your efforts with great interest!

We want to avoid common pitfalls media companies face: selling ads, selling "marketing data", and repackaging ads to look like articles.
Instead, we're looking at:
* Crowdfunding through Patreon and OpenCollective
* Grants from entities like The Knight Foundation
* Sponsorships
* Selling awesome merch
* Selling access to "Premium" articles, which always switch back to regular articles 3 months after publication.
We're also considering some other venues, like producing / selling educational courses for Fediverse development. Purely ideas at this point, nothing set in stone.
