The living room is coming together, I need to get curtains and decorate the walls more but I'm making progress!

@disarray that you enter a house and stand in the living room. in European houses you have a mudroom/cloakroom and passage to living room and kitchen.

in old German houses like my grandparents there was even a separation between every-day living room and Sunday living room even.

@cell @disarray same, in our apartment we have a place at the entrance. many of our Muslim neighbors keep their shoes outside of the apartment. however that's technically illegal because fire brigade access.

many of our German/Euro student friends ask you to take off shoes when entering apartment.

many older Germans will expect you to keep your shoes on inside the house.

my grandfather had inside and outside leather shoes, with the inside shoes looking like attached.

@cell @kaia I usually enter in through the garage, take shoes off when I enter the kitchen, and put them on the shoe rack in the closet. I'll send pics later.
