#AlJazeera journalists used a consumer drone to document the aftermath of a Jan 7 Israeli strike on a building in #KhanYounis.

As the 4 #journalists returned, the #IDF targeted them in their car, striking it with a missile & killing the driver & 2 Al Jazeera crew — Hamza Dahdouh, 27, & drone operator Mustafa Thuraya, 30 — & seriously wounding 2 freelancers.

IDF claimed they were terrorists who'd threatened IDF troops.

WaPo got the drone footage...no IDF anywhere.

The #IDF's lies & false claims of secret "evidence" are more and more brazen, more and more insulting.

It has been very obvious since shortly after Oct 7 that #Israel has been intentionally targeting doctors, journalists, & many other civilians, IN THEIR HOMES, in many cases, murdering their entire families.

#Journalists should be ashamed of how little they have done to defend their profession & the 95+ Palestinian journalists killed by the IDF over the last few months.

Israel-Gaza war takes record toll on journalists - Committee to Protect Journalists
        from Arlene Getz
More journalists have been killed in the first 10 weeks of the Israel-Gaza war than have ever been killed in a single country over an entire year, according to CPJ data. By December 20, 2023, at least 68 journalists and media workers had been killed since the October 7 start of the conflict. Of those...

The "next day [IDF claimed] it had “identified & struck a terrorist who operated an aircraft that posed a threat to #IDF troops”

2 days later, IDF claimed to have uncovered new evidence: the 2 #journalists they'd murdered were militants! 🥴

However. "Dahdouh had recently been approved to leave #Gaza, a rare privilege unlikely to have been granted to a known militant." Both had "passed through Israeli checkpoints on their way to the south"

The IDF refused multiple opportunities to comment.

#Israel has censored any outside coverage of what it is doing in #Gaza, at all. Then it's murdering any members of the group it's genociding, who dare provide coverage.

These killings "have taken place against a backdrop of growing censorship of #media in the region, including at least 20 arrests as well as physical & online harassment of #journalists. Media facilities have also been damaged or destroyed."

      #IDF murdering journalists isn't new.

      "Deadly Pattern": A #CPJ special report 5/9/2023:

"The May 11, 2022, killing of Al-Jazeera Arabic correspondent Shireen Abu Akleh is part of a deadly, decades-long pattern. Over 22 years, CPJ has documented at least 20 journalist killings by members of [IDF]. Despite numerous #IDF probes, no one has ever been charged or held responsible for these deaths. The impunity in these cases has severely undermined the freedom of the #press"

“The Israel-Gaza war is the most dangerous situation for #journalists we have ever seen, and these figures show that clearly,” said Sherif Mansour, #CPJ’s Middle East and North Africa program coordinator.

“The Israeli army has killed more journalists in 10 weeks than any other army or entity has in any single year. And with every journalist killed, the war becomes harder to document and to understand.”
