Congressional Democrats and Republicans, on a bipartisan basis, hate when people are informed of what's going on and especially when they call their representatives to complain about it.
These are the same people who call the cops to do mass arrests of disabled activists in wheelchairs. Or climate protestors. Or any other group of people they don't want to hear from.

Biden has been dodging Gaza protestors for a while now and doing small events with wealthy donors to limit the backlash he has to personally deal with.

Nobody in Washington seems to care if "X" or Facebook are awash in disinformation or hate speech that affects elections or gets people killed, including known foreign propaganda efforts from Russia and elsewhere, but when young people on TikTok start organizing against the genocide in Gaza, shit, Congress is all over trying to get that app shut down, pronto.

It's the ownership, not what people are doing with it. There's an anti-China thing going on in Congress which has roughly no resemblance to reality.

Agree, but only to a point.
One of the biggest supporters of the anti-TikTok bill happens to be AIPAC, mostly because the medium has become the app of choice for Palestinians and their supporters to counter Israeli propaganda regarding the Genocide in Gaza.
There's also the establishment liberals not too happy about Indy Left criticism of them; right-wingers not happy about queer/trans folks using TT in self defense against Religious Right slander...
