i have been wrangling with PS2 homebrew for over a week and i think ive finally got it working right. this has been the most frustrating console softmodding experience, everything is FUCKED for no apparent reasons

ive given up on HDD and went for SMB. which was also a headache since there's a "n00b friendly ezpz all in one raspberry pi image for this!!" which of course is some OLD ASS raspbian image with wrong repos and etc. "you can also run these scripts off an existing debian install" yeah right lmfao

@why I need to do this on that ps2 I got for 5 bucks a few years ago, thanks for the reminder, and make a guide when you're over it :l_heh:

i specifically got a fat PS2 so i could use the internal hard drive for loading games, but it doesnt FUCKING work. all the guides say you should use a PS2 homebrew app to format the drive but ive NEVER seen it actually function. i CAN get it to work, but then when i reboot the console the drive becomes corrupted. the only thing i havent tested is getting a new SATA adapter (i had to replace the guts of the og IDE adapter), but i dont think there's like a chip when converting IDE->SATA unless there is? it was my impression the only things that are shoddy are the aftermarket adapters that are built for SATA.

@romin youll at least need a good memory card (sony or good 3rd party that supports magicgate encryption), and a fat32 usb drive.
everything is kinda on consolemods wiki, but youll quickly leave the site for old ass forums as usual. my only recommendation is to not use freehdboot, it takes over 30 seconds for the console to just turn on. freemcboot is near instant.
id also say try hdd loading, despite my bad experience i feel like its a "doesnt work on my machine" situation.
if you want to do SMB then youll need a spare raspberry pi or something that can turn an ethernet port into a router. i ended up using the psx-pi-smbshare repo but honestly all you need to do is samba and automount usb drives.
