      @kaia same with Mexico, there was an attempt to put several limitations to catholicism but never enforced atheism afaik

      @kaia mexico did not have enforced atheism, it had a conflicts between the state, the catholic church and some socialist factions over the influence of the church, and by extension of the vatican, in the state

        Kirchenkampf
        Als Kirchenkampf im engeren Sinn bezeichnet man den Konflikt innerhalb der Deutschen Evangelischen Kirche zwischen der Bekennenden Kirche einerseits und den Deutschen Christen anderseits, von 1933 bis etwa zum Beginn des Zweiten Weltkriegs 1939. Im weiteren Sinn wird oft die Epoche der deutschen Kirchengeschichte in der Zeit des Nationalsozialismus insgesamt so bezeichnet. In diesem Fall umfasst der Begriff den Kampf des NS-Staates gegen die evangelische und die katholische Kirche sowie ihre herkömmlichen Organisationsstrukturen, mit dem Ziel der Gleichschaltung den Kampf von Nationalsozialisten in und außerhalb der Kirchen gegen das konfessionelle Christentum. Dieser Kampf verfolgte verschiedene Zwecke: Sie sollten z. B. mit der NS-Ideologie kompatibler gemacht werden; ihr gesellschaftlicher und politischer Einfluss sollte verringert werden; einigen Nazis schwebte eine „arteigene“ Religiosität vor (siehe z. B. Germanische Glaubens-Gemeinschaft (Ludwig Fahrenkrog)) den Abwehrkampf von christlichen Gruppen und Teilkirchen gegen diese Bestrebungen.Dass der letztgenannte Abwehrkampf als allgemeines Kennzeichen jener Epoche zu…
