     @infryq @CelloMomOnCars Are traditional window AC units effectively providing heat for…anyone? No, they’re not designed for that, in many ways.

     Do machines actually designed for that purpose work? Yes, very well.

     Are the modern compressors sold as “heat pumps” also more efficient? Yes.

     Is the article’s headline claim correct? Yes.

     Can people make their own cost tradeoff decisions about this? Yes.

     Come on.

     @CelloMomOnCars @inthehands …we already fit heat pumps in apartment windows, they’re called air conditioners

     heat pumps for providing both heat and cooling work exactly the same way (it’s literally just a reversal valve) and discussing them as if they are somehow more complicated new technology sets people up to be price gouged
