One really bad part of the whole #enshiffication term is how readily it gets co-opted into being about entirely different dynamics than the relatively material and clearly structural processes that @pluralistic originally used it for.
I've already seen it used more than once to describe how search results are bad now because of "GenAI".

@landetannien Har inte hört det i den här kontexten - känner till det i relation till Cixin Liu's böcker, men om jag bara läser videobeskrivningen verkar det ju vara helt orelaterat.
Spontant känner jag inte att Det Nya Internet egentligen är speciellt mycket värre än vad det redan var för tre år sen eller så, långt innan GenAI-boomen kom igång på riktigt. Den stora förändringen var när allt och alla flyttade/blev flyttade in på några få proprietära och stängda plattformar.

@pettter Känner du till Dark Forest-modellen förresten? Det vore ju fint om det begreppet sprider sig i stället, så att uttrycket skräpifiering kan få referera till det som det var avsett för.

@AndiPopp @pluralistic Oh yeah, terms change and merge and split all over, for sure.
I'm kind of partial to the criticism of the term itself as obscuring more than it clarifies, especially in terms of how many of the pressures and dynamics are specific to capitalism, and don't necessarily apply to platforms that are run under other economic models, but there's always a balance on how far you can push things in an anticapitalist direction while still getting to be heard in media.

@pettter Such terms tend to run through a kind of redefinition when people use them. In most parts of the internet, "meme" is also used with a rather different meaning from what Dawkins meant back in the day. @pluralistic
