i think the sad thing for USAians is they dont have this communally accepted giant pretend reality that exists only in film and tv where cars, schools, trains, houses etc all conform to certain motifs that just dont exist in the real world. For them thats just actual reality.
growing up with america land as this fiction lore ontop of everything gives it this filmic feel and then you see it in real life and you're like, oh, none of this is filmic.

like the brownstone row houses with their stoops on sesame street are to a non us citizen the same level of magical suspension of disbelief in an unreal thing as the cookie monster or big bird.

when we see those brownstones in other shows we're like "oh its cool they gave big bird a part in this police procedural"

Trade off: walking through a 120 year old private school near my home and expecting to hear somebody chide, "Lewis...!"
