Imagine if instead of making COVID isolation guidelines as weak as the flu...

We approved combo rapid tests like this and made them free and available for everyone...

So that people could tell how long they need to isolate based on science and not feelings, whatever the pathogen.

@luckytran What's changed since 2022? Oh yeah wastewater is higher in February than any past February . . . and 17 times higher than June 2021.

@luckytran Apparently the 2022 version of Jha agrees with testing to exit isolation. But CDC went with Trump's policy of "if we stop testing, we'd have fewer cases."

      CDC guidelines: https://www.cdc.gov/ncird/whats-new/updated-respiratory-virus-guidance.html

California is explicit in its guidance and CDC appears to have the same goal:
"For asymptomatic confirmed cases, there is no infectious period for the purpose of isolation or exclusion. If symptoms develop, the criteria above will apply." https://www.cdph.ca.gov/Programs/CID/DCDC/Pages/COVID-19/Order-of-the-State-Public-Health-Officer-Beyond-Blueprint.aspx

@luckytran It's so incredible that the Delta Airlines 5-day isolation proposal actually included a negative test to exit isolation. But the CDC dropped that part most likely because there was a shortage of rapid tests around that time. They easily could add a negative test to exit isolation now. I still can't get over the fact that if you are asymptomatic you do not have to do *anything.*. No one-day isolation. No masking for 5 days. I've read and re-read the guidelines and there's zip.

@luckytran I really want this, but I'm not sure if I want it for the utility or because it has the same awkwardly impressive vibe as a six-neck guitar.

@YetAnotherGeekGuy @luckytran When I take a sample for a covid test, the tube with the sample solution has more liquid than just the three drops I drip on the test.

So let me get this straight …

      5, Five, count ‘em, FIVE
      Q-Tips up my nose ?!?

Can’t we do this with ONE sample?

@luckytran This would be nice to see, but even if the tests were free and widely available, we won't see widespread adoption until this country has rights for workers. If testing positive meant missing 5 days of work, millions of Americans would plead ignorance and work sick.

@LuckyTurtle A place where workers require tips to survive because they're not getting a proper salary isn't likely to offer proper sick leave either.

In view of government failure, current status, can this be procured independently by individuals?
