@munir @Dullahan @givenup normally that stuff should be hooked up to your house's electric circuit so it's always running, while the batteries should be an auxiliary power supply in case your power goes out, in case there's an unfortunate occurence of a fire happening while you're out of power

What does a smoke detector use even? Double A? Triple A? Regardless, it depends on the battery type and manufacturing process. Rechargeable batteries are made to withstand such loads. Do NOT try to charge an non-rechargeable battery.
