Hot Take: Mastodon should have at least twice as many privacy settings, including:

Normal settings, such as:

- People I follow, only.

- Local only.

- Public, but only people I follow can reply.

And totally unhinged settings, such as:

- Public, but no boosts.

- Hashtag only (public, but not listed on non-hashtag timelines).

- Actually unlisted (public, but not listed on any timelines).
