@mmasnick
Mike, does this mean BlueSky instances are or are not integratabtle with Mastodon space?
Why not work to improve/modify a W3C effort (Activity Pub, h/t @pluralistic) rather than develop yet another protocol (if I skimmed this accurately)?
Why can’t this stuff be as interoperable as SMTP?

@kegill at present, they are not. The AT Protocol is different than ActivityPub, which is close to SMTP in ways; there are efforts to bridge them, but they are controversial in some quarters: https://techcrunch.com/2024/02/14/bluesky-and-mastodon-users-are-having-a-fight-that-could-shape-the-next-generation-of-social-media/
@mmasnick listed reasons why the AT Protocol may have advantages.
@digiphile @kegill yes, what Alex said. They take fundamentally different approaches. Bridges will come.
Thanks, guys!
