@anirvan I love democracy BUT I've always thought it a bit strange that we elect so many judges on a local level in the US. I sometimes think local judges should be appointed as civil servants like in France, or we should have a collegium that selects judges like in India. There are pluses and minuses to both systems but I think there are more negatives to election.

@anirvan I usually just go with who is recommended by the Illinois Bar Association and I read their write up of the judges to understand why they give the rating they do. The races are non-partisan here too but you usually can tell.
