   Almost my entire career has consisted of correcting fantasies about how well security works:

   "Computers have become impenetrable fortresses used by evildoers to hide their evil deeds! Let's outlaw encryption for everyone!"

   "Software bugs and malware are problems of the past! Let's vote on our phones!"

   And so on.

     @mattblaze Appreciate your continuing to fight the good fight. I work for a huge worldwide corporation who was hit by ransomware. Systems were down for WEEKS. I was amazed.
     I am accused of being over the top with the security I have on my home network/computers.
     Not too long ago, I informed my cousin that her Wi-Fi SSID was coming up on my phone while I was waiting in the pharmacy drive-thru across the street. A good 150 yards from her front door. I texted her to tell her so and explain that she should dial down the power on her router, and why. Got kinda shrugged off. O...K? All I can do is tell ya.

     Seriously, refuting this crap has easily been 90% of the useful, such as it, work that I've done.

     You can see how useful it is when the work's not done.

     I still wonder how the British Post Office scandal happened. If we'd had a row of engineers in the court hearing as the prosecution stated 'this software does not make mistakes', they'd have to be forcefully removed during hysterical fits of laughter.
