PSA for new users: your DM's on here are not private and you shouldn't share sensitive information there

One of the quirks of fedi is that DMs are just treated as normal posts with the only difference being who they're shown to. This means that the person running your instance and the instance of the person you're DMing can view and moderate them like any other post

If you want to be private you should ask to speak on signal/xmpp/matrix or any other end to end encrypted app
