@shibao @Tony Carbide either needs extreme flood coolant or nothing at all. Being a ceramic, it can handle heat pretty well, but if you don't keep it entirely submerged in coolant the thermal differences will cause it to chip or shatter. In this particular case, it look like it would be difficult to keep adequate coolant on the insert, and they're using inserts, which are (relatively) cheap to replace. 受不了包 likes this. -

@ForbiddenDreamer @shibao @Tony Suppose it also depends on the throughput they are doing, and since it is a manual system, I assume it is relatively low throughput for the day. 受不了包 likes this. -

@WhitestTemplar @ForbiddenDreamer @shibao @Tony I would assume they need a fair number per shift, but they're not running that job day in day out. Smells of batch rather than continuous production. -

@IsraelDelendaEst @Tony @shibao @ForbiddenDreamer @WhitestTemplar Those carbide inserts have a manufactured standard lifetime of 15 minutes. If you want more, you would need to lower the speed at which you are cutting the material. Maximum is usually around an hour. 受不了包 likes this. -

@Tony@clew.lol i've honestly been thinking about it, the only problem for me is that i'd basically have to save up the same amount of money to either put into a down payment or a trailer, they're both pretty similar, and then the loan on it would be like a car instead of a house
so like house trailer seems totally worse but i've been considering it because just selling some land with hookups and being able to move (theoretically) is kind of appealing -

Don't get offended, but what about a manufactured home or a trailer? Hell of a lot cheaper and you can get a plot of land.
I've been thinking about it because anything half way decent around here is 500K
