    @mattj @stanford Most people have switched to OMEMO, but there is an OTR v4 in the works, which aims to catch up and implement e.g. the Signal-style double ratchet encryption.

    There is no obvious place to look for an overview on v4 and how it's going. The mailing lists are quiet and the bugtracker is down.

      OTR usage in XMPP has long been replaced by OMEMO, which supports multiple devices, offline messaging, groups, encrypted file transfers, audio/video calls and so on.

      OMEMO is based on the protocol Signal uses.
