   I'm seeing a ton of advertising on YouTube for St. Jude Hospital. I'm just going to leave this from @ProPublica right here.

   "Only about half of the $7.3 billion St. Jude has received in contributions in the past five fiscal years went to the hospital’s research and caring for patients ... About 30% covered the cost of its fundraising operations, and the remaining 20%, or $1 of every $5 donated, increased its reserve fund."

     @D_J_Nathanson why don't they more openly share their financials? Why is it so hard to find out what percent of your donation actually goes to helping the cause and not into the pockets of the board members or to cover the costs of employees who harass you outside the grocery store and their tshirts and other swag?
     
     They don't want you to know or they'd be proudly advertising "95 cents of every dollar goes to help a starving child!" or whatever

     @feld @ProPublica Don't become jaded. There absolutely are well-run charities who don't do what St. Jude is doing (sitting on piles of money while leaving the false impression that they take care of everything).

     The completionist charity scam revealed that most spending by these charity organizations are from operating costs and donating to other charity organizations.
     It's fucking sick.

     So legally you have to, but the problem comes into the specifics of spending if you want to further break down costs (operating costs).
     I think it's a 990 form.
