   I love these "energy zone" mailings I get from DTE. They compare your home against other homes to try to get you to use less electricity and optimize your usage.

   That would be great if I didn't run a desktop computer 24x7 and have several Synology devices that I use as backup drives.

   But sure, I'll turn down the brightness on my TV to save $10 a year.

     And I do turn the lights off each time I leave the room. I can see in the dark just fine. Unfortunately JoDee can't, so she turns the lights on.

     But sure, let's consider that as a place of savings.

     This reminds me of these cost-cutting measures that every business tried like "turn off the lights in the bathrooms", which, invariably lead to someone having to either yell "I'm still in here" or figure out how to get to the light switch with the back-light PDA (ask me how I know this one).

     @craigmaloney Not to mention the offices that put motion detectors in the bathrooms, so the lights turn off automatically if you spend too long in the stall. (Some consultant's idea of too long, not your biological necessity's sense of too long.)
