@Pawlicker They are bullying him to bloat his software with per-user configuration and service bots. Minimalism is key for a system like this, but they don't understand that.

@alex it's going to tank if he caves to their demands, but it would also be 100% symbolic of everything wrong with the mastodon side and bluesky as well in one move.

The trick with software devs like this is to just turn the car stereo playing music loud even louder and keep the window rolled up.

@Sprate @Pawlicker Yep. It's open source. But Bluesky itself hasn't enabled federation yet. I might try running it.

Is there anyway for you or someone else to run their own Bluesky bridge? Or is this something Bridgy is unique in being able to do?

What I’m more curious of is someone reimplementing the whole stack on their own, from the provided documentation only, and not just copycating undocumented behavior from source code of the sample implementation. I don’t consider anything an open standard until there’s at least two independent [client and server] implementations of it.

@arcanicanis @Pawlicker @Sprate For sure. There are two styles of "decentralization", one that aims to be simple and have many implementations, and one that indulges itself to be complex with the idea that you can just run the one implementation. Nostr is the first kind, Matrix is the second kind. ActivityPub is somewhere in between.
