I have a corner of my house that seems to have standing waves from the highway half a block away. If I have no sounds in the house (fridge downcycled, no fans or aircon on, no music) I can't normally hear it, but if I put my head near the floor in one particular corner there's a pulsing sound.

I’m pretty sure I’ve seen this as Act 1 in a horror movie.

Nanoraptor (nanoraptor@bitbang.social)'s status on Tuesday, 13-Feb-2024 23:35:55 JST Nanoraptor I couldn't figure it out until one quiet public holiday with barely any traffic, I could barely pick it up - then I heard a semi trailer go by and it increased markedly. It's obvious listening out for highway sounds that the thrumming pulsing sound goes along with them, is caused by them.

Nanoraptor (nanoraptor@bitbang.social)'s status on Tuesday, 13-Feb-2024 23:35:55 JST Nanoraptor I wonder why that exact spot. It's not just that corner, just that corner down near the floor. I wonder if it's existed for the whole century and a half of the life of the house. I wonder if there might be an old well under that corner, say.
Paul Cantrell repeated this.
