   If you know someone on Bluesky or Threads or somewhere else that tries to connect with fedi (either through direct federation or bridges or whatever) who is confused as to why people on the fediverse get so bent out of shape about said connections and defederate, a legitimate answer you can give them is that some of us have actual standards for moderation.

   Those places are terribly moderated, and anyone who gets used to a modicum of good moderation on fedi can tell the difference instantly. So the next time you hear someone complaining about us being isolationist, please remind them of this fact.

     @skyfaller @are0h I mean, you could make the argument that the fediverse is the same way, to be fair. We've got Truth Social after all, lol

     @tillshadeisgone @are0h My understanding is that there is literally no moderation on Bluesky? That their "solution" is simply to filter out stuff the end user doesn't want to see, but to host anything and allow anyone to post?

     @tillshadeisgone @are0h But mods generally pre-emptively defederated Truth Social (they never turned on federation anyway), and we defederate any similar fascist servers. It seems like the only way to meet our moderation standards is to defederate Bluesky (if it were to ever support ActivityPub, which they don't plan to do) and any bridges to it. Crucially that should reduce our visibility to Bluesky and their Nazis, not simply hide the Nazis from us. The ostrich method doesn't keep anyone safe.
