    I wonder if they told those hostages and their families that they killed 67 unrelated civilians as a diversion for their rescue. That is a hard calculus to live with.

        Israeli airstrikes kill dozens of Palestinians in Rafah as military rescues 2 hostages
        In Gaza, the operation unleashed another tragedy in a war that has killed 28,340 Palestinians in the territory, displaced over 80 percent of the population and set off a massive humanitarian crisis.

      @berniethewordsmith @evan

      First, I suggest that you don't believe Hamas about the numbers of casualties and certainly not about whether they were all civilians.

      Second, Palestinian terrorists took these Israeli hostages from Israel into Gaza and into a civilian neighborhood in Rafah. Israel didn't choose where this, or any other battle will be. That was the choice of the terrorists.

      @bdsint @berniethewordsmith there was a negotiated ceasefire on the table that Netanyahu declined. That was the other option for getting these hostages freed. The Netanyahu government very much has chosen high Palestinian casualties over a negotiated settlement.

      @evan @bdsint @berniethewordsmith Evan, Hamas declined a negotiated ceasefire days before that.

      You can have whatever views you want, but please, bring your ability to report facts and what’s actually happened to bear on this just as you typically have in the past on your posts.
