people just want a brand to be sold to them, that's the only way they will care about anything pc related-

when i have asked people and gotten into conversations of any depth, this is always the one reason that i cannot imagine ever overcoming... people want to engage with brands
fedi is about engaging with a community... it's about having social experiences... but that's not really what mass adopters want from social media; they want to be sold a brand.
totally.

i think fedi is a safe and friendly space, heavily because it requires an academic like love for computing -

it actually seems good... like this is a little slice of heaven... an internet community that is inherently resistant to being productized.
is good <3
plus i am weird, no need for mass adoption... i just need weirdo adoption <3

and some of my favourite fedizens are non-technical and non-academic :)
i think it's because it lures in people who really care about genuine community and the conversations and cross-pollination that such interactions bring ✨
