For instance, the 99% want the end of the enormous wealth gap. Shouldn't matter what label someone falls under, we need the entire 99% to fight.

True. Still, the meaning of labels change over the years. The first group of people who nominated Lincoln, republicans, would not be called "conservative" in this day and age.
The fight back on this, imo, is not about how stereotypical people grouped under a label may be but, instead, it's about not using the labels that divide us when we need togetherness.
