I mean, the "don't recommend this channel" button is nice YouTube, but where's the "fire the maker of this channel directly into the fucking sun" button?

YouTube: "Cool but after that how about you watch 8 videos of Jason Whitlock carrying water for white supremacists and nazis?"
Me: "Umm, no. You know what, forget about it, let's watch some history documentaries instead."
YouTube: "History? We heard you like history so here's a video from KlausBarbieWorld about all the good things Hitler gave us..."

Ⓐ Dirk Ritter (gnumatic@deppenkessel.de)'s status on Wednesday, 31-Jan-2024 00:24:33 JST Ⓐ Dirk Ritter The evil thing about YouTube & friends is that people get the impression it is them who decide what to play, when in reality it's more like hopping channels on Corp. hellworld TV.
At least you have to be *very* stubborn, selctive and precise to get to the meaningful stuff out there *eventually*.

And then I get to play the fun game of trying not to think too much about what fraction of the nazi and other malodorous content is just YouTube being excited to put that shit on their main page, and what fraction of it is based on what my coworkers are actually watching on their breaks, and which of those two options is worse. 🙃

The best example is that if you search up videos critical of fascists and the things fascists are doing in the news, it will then feed you videos BY those fascists and other fascists defending them. Every single time.

Believe me, I have enough interests that YouTube has decided are nazi-adjacent that I'm constantly playing "don't recommend this channel" whack-a-mole too.
