Appreciate the replies folks, but let's be clear; you're probably NOT going to convince me that I'm wrong about people and beliefs I've held for most of my life, in a couple of Mastodon posts.
You're welcome to feel how you feel and think what you think, but I am more or less the mountain you will not move, on that particular subject.

I believe in people, and I don't trust power. These are in fact core beliefs of mine, and I hate to say it, but this ideological space is quite lonely.
You don't have to agree, but you're probably not going to change my mind about either. And that makes me few friends; among both liberals, and adherents to more structured forms of left wing ideology.
I've grown to accept that, but also we could just skip all the bad noise because "too late to change this."

@AndersZorn I mean, assuming I'm understanding how you're using the word here, in classic philosophical sense? Yeah. It's not a "feeling" I have, so much as the place every single thing I've studied and all my lived experience has lead me towards.
People, left to their own devices, are basically good, even amazing. Power, left unchecked, is corrosive, violent, and ultimately destructive.
