   Look, I cannot stress this enough right? I get that it's hard to talk this kind of talk serious because almost everything these fascists do in terms of trying a physical takeover usually ends up a complete shitshow. This is not actually inconsistent with fascist movements in other places, these folks are always creeps and dipshits. It's just that in a society literally not BUILT to punish the white vigilante violence it was founded on, they get to keep trying. And sometimes, they get lucky.

     In terms of the Canadian version(s) of this stealth fash Trucker convoy, they actually had to try it a whole bunch of times, tying it to different things fascists and reactionaries were pissed off about until they finally hit on COVID lockdowns and the anti-vax movement, which when combined with some mixture of police complicity and governmental incompetence lead to both taking over part of a Canadian city for 3 weeks AND a confrontation with the government that has energized the fash.

     Without being a jerk about it, take off the American exceptionalist glasses we're all "gifted" growing up in this society and ask yourself, how do you think nationalism militia violence and terrorism happen in other places? What DO they look like when they start? If you want me to agree that these folks probably can't take over the country, I'll be happy to do that. But there's a lot more ways to lose this horrifying game than chud rush seizes the capital.

     @AnarchoNinaWrites you can add "tacit governmental support" to the Ottawa occupation - Premier #DougFord should have used the provincial police when the city police collapsed like a wet towel, but he needed to pander to the loons and strategically wanted to make it a problem for Trudeau. This resulted in the Feds invoking some extremely hefty public order legislation (the courts just ruled this was unconstitutional) because it was clear no other force was going to clear the trucks.

     @AnarchoNinaWrites It's less about the success of any given attempt and more and whether the consequences of any given coup are permanent and fatal to the movement making the attempt.

     In the US, since even the Confederacy we've leaned very heavily towards "Oh they learned their lesson. We can just move on without doing any actual work to reintegrate them or break their bloc."
