    Two immediate thoughts:

    A) the fash dry-ran something like this scenario in a couple places in Canada not that long ago with fucking oodles of outside funding and it quickly became a sort of soft coup attempt.

    B) It's not often I write about a concern I'm having with patterns I see in the news, and then confirmation that the nazis be going for it pops up the very next day.

This might be a shitshow, but if they give it enough tries, sooner or later they'll get lucky.

To be clear here; presumably the plan is to force either a confrontation with the federal government at the cost of a few martyrs, to force the resignation of top officials in the opposition party (probably the President), generate political support for Downmarket Mussolini and his acolytes in the upcoming elections, and perhaps even simply cause enough chaos to disrupt the function of government and kick off another chud rush/secession movement.

I've seen this film before; up close.

You've got a whole bunch of familiar notes here. "Trucker convoy" + "border militias" + "Army of God" + open collaboration with Christian nationalists. Funding will pour in for these folks rapidly too, now that it's mainstream news, just like it did in Canada. This is clearly an explicitly Americanized version of the tactic, relying on similar themes that produced prior ethno-nationalist militia forces "policing the border" but the plans go much father than that and someone wrote it. I'm sure.

It's a fucking nightmare trip to have the 'Lucky Once, Lucky Every Time' dynamic play out with fascists holding the rock needing to be lucky once, like JFC, how does a non responsive half-captured State even?

@DeliaChristina Definitely, and an example of how letting them get away or mostly get away with smaller scale actions like that one, don't lead anyplace good in the long term.

It vaguely reminds me of the Bundy standoffs years ago. But *bigger*.

Yeah, an ex-friend of mine used to write about how the Bundy standoff was a catalyzing coalescing point for some politically disparate yet sorta related groups to unite and transform into the groups who've been creating problematic shenanigans since and up to Unite the Right in 2017.

I think this is another coalescing point with bigger stakes than some random rancher's land rights. These aren't good signs.

@DeliaChristina Definitely feels like crossing the strains to find a more potent whole. I don't think you, or your friend, are/were wrong about that. Whether they will succeed or not I can't really say; but clearly they're having some success and again, if nobody ever gets held accountable they're free to keep trying till they hit.

These people know what they're going for. "It's just a peaceful protest" is a ploy only the deeply naive would fall for.

@AnarchoNinaWrites California went through this in the 90s with the ‘Minutemen’. We eventually sent them packing. I don’t see a scenario where the Christian nationalist movement dies out except due to violence.
