    Burning wood contributes to global warming and pollutes the air around. That might be slightly more acceptable in rural areas, because the number of people breathing in particulates is probably smaller. But it's the same amount of carbon dioxide released.

    People like this college professor don't deserve "a pass" on burning wood because it's cheaper, just like people driving into Manhattan don't deserve one because they might not have much money. Lives are at stake.

      Again, if something that literally grows out of the ground is not "renewable", what the actual fuck is?

      >Burning wood is not, by any sane definition, a clean or sustainable form of energy.

      Dude, wood literally grows on trees. It comes out of the ground. If wood isn't renewable, what the actual fuck is? Does uranium grow from plants?

      @olmitch @publius @capntransit it’s not considered clean because of the smoke from burning wood affecting air quality, breathing, etc.

      it’s also not sustainable because it takes a while for trees to grow.

      @capntransit

      Burning wood is not, by any sane definition, a clean or sustainable form of energy.

      It is also not in any way adapted to the needs of a society where most people live in cities.

      @olmitch @marine because carbon theory has replaced all sanity or care about ecological discourse

      @olmitch @publius @capntransit it is renewable. but it is not sustainable. we’d run out of mature trees before the new ones grow in.

      @marine @olmitch nobody has heard of it because as i said all ecological discourse is fucking carbon theory.

      they'd happily dump nuclear waste in the school fountain if it gets their holy net zero, everything to do with any ecological issues has gone out the window for the holy self-flaggelation about CO2.

      @icedquinn @marine @olmitch Back in the 20th Century, environmentalism was mostly about protecting wild lands from industrial development. The bad guys were corporations and bankers. Well the kikes didn't like that one bit. So using a massive ad campaign (and a campaign of terror against actual activists like Earth First), they realigned the environmentalist movement to be all about "carbon". Now the bad guys are regular people just living their lives.

      @caekislove @icedquinn @marine @olmitch man, old environmental activism where they would bomb corporate factories and garrote scientists testing lip balm on rabbits was pretty metal
