   @ned I think there’s a compulsive need for somebody to be the boss, and to see the ICJ as being that boss. Understanding the actual power structure here — the ICJ has essentially none except as a consensus-builder — helps identify a more useful path forward. They can’t compel Israel to do anything. What they •might• be able to do is help form a more effective coalition among those who •do• have leverage in this situation. That’s it.

     Israel read the ruling by the ICJ in the opposite way as the rest of the world, and nothing will change.

     Netanyahu: "Court was right to uphold Israel's right to self-defense, but should never have debated genocide charge"

     Israeli foreign ministry: 'Israel remains committed to abide by international law, and that has "nothing to do with the court proceedings."'

     According to the ministry, "Israel's war is against Hamas, not against Palestinian civilians."
