1. an edited clip from a 2001 apple keynote. steve jobs introduces the concept of the "megahertz myth" - the idea that higher clock speeds don't correlate directly with improved performance - and apple's senior VP of hardware demonstrates how branch mispredictions can cause processors with longer pipelines to stall. the powerPC G4, with its 7-stage pipeline, is shown to therefore be faster than the 20-stage pentium 4, despite running at less than half the clock speed.
