   I so wish mastodon would have bigger character limits, it's such a mess to rest any of those people's takes.
   Maybe they should use an old Nokia from like 2003 and see how annoying split SMS messages are.

     @slyecho Yeah but that's not genuine mastodon, you have to patch the server out.
     
     And aren't most modified mastodon servers character limits still pretty low like in the same amount of digits?
     Meanwhile Pleroma's default is 5 000, Friendica is something like 14 000, no idea for Misskey but it seems to also have a big limit if it even has one.

     @hj Right Something like 160 characters for ASCII and 70 for for the others.
     
     Meanwhile my feature phone puts a limit at 804, that's almost 2× bigger than the mastodon default post limit.

     Also it makes me wonder, are SMS messages still concatenated in 4G and 5G networks?
     At least I know they are still split for my feature phone because this stupid thing really takes it's time for decoding messages *and* sends a notification at the first chunk.

     @hj Nah, MMS are bork, if anything it would more likely switch to Email (yeah I think it's Japan-compatible).
