uh
man going from house to house cleaning windows during the storm.
uh
the british window cleaning mafia i swear
just lads wandering around towns ringing doorbells letting you know they have access to a ladder and no one will stop them from accessing all sides of your home so money please.
if it was a service theyd ring your doorbell first and ask if you wanted your windows cleaned,
not just rock up, slam a ladder against your wall, wipe soap and water over your windows and then ring your doorbell.
@dave0 yep, its a wild britishism, i think you can trace the lineage back to medieval festival mumming with renboys and hoeboys basically going to fancier neighbourhoods and saying hey we're a bunch of lads with farm tools, nice garden you have here, fancy giving us some 'go away' money?
@siege o_O
holy moly. that’s insane.
As a person living in the America Midwest, I can think of no faster way to get shot than to lean a ladder against someone’s house, climb up, and look in their windows.
@siege @dave0 oh this made it to the US decades ago & keeps going along yearly, via ‘Irish travelers’ (insert context about the complications of that name, racism & how weird settled people have been to nomadic people for centuries etc etc) showing up, offering to or just start fixing something, and then creating more damage they have to ‘fix’ https://www.nbcboston.com/investigations/scam-artists-to-the-core-police-warn-of-transnational-contracting-scheme/3220022/?amp=1
