   **Electric cars are not the future**
   *In cities at least, e-bikes make more cultural and consumer sense*

   >Will they take up electric cars — in effect, just a cleaner version of what they already had — or switch modes of transport altogether? My bet is that, in cities at least, the e-car won’t be the vehicle of the future. I suspect it will keep falling further behind e-bikes, e-mopeds and e-scooters.

   >EVs also emit more carbon over their life cycle than any form of urban transport except petrol cars.

   I can only hope so, to have any chance, we need to move away from private cars, no matter the engine.

     @largess there is a rare positive dynamic that can help (at least partially) with the very tough #sustainability challenge:

     1) the world is steadily urbanizing (2007 was the crossover point https://ourworldindata.org/urbanization)

     2) cities are spatially compact and thoughtful design (e.g the #15minutecity https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/15-minute_city) can drastically reduce the need for heavy individual mobility (cars)

     3) #ebikes are healthier, cleaner and even faster in clogged city conditions
