I just spent $90 on the pet poison hotline, so let me pass this info on for free to others. My 70 pound/31 kilogram dog is in the danger zone of kidney failure and death after eating 5 raisins and may not show symptoms until it's too late, which is about 12 hours later. He ate more than that, so he's off to the emergency clinic. Raisins sit in the stomach for a while in dogs his size-- about 5 hours. Even vets don't know the dosage that is dangerous (they usually call and pass the charge on to you), and I am surprised it is that few raisins that can be deadly. Don't fuck with raisins.

I'm taking care of elderly parents. It's been a very long time since this house has had pets. And that's the fear that keeps me from getting pets, even though it would probably be good for my aging parents.
I simply don't know how much of my home would be dangerous to them after so many years of being without pets. I know about chocolate, but I had no idea raisins are bad for dogs.
