I have a full pack of potatoes that I forgot about in the cupboard while we were away. it heavily germinated and spread its tentacles everywhere.

it's kinda sad to throw it out on the bio waste, but the soil is frozen now. any alternatives? I don't have planters.

@kaia apparently, they can be grown hydroponically, but that probably still needs all kinds of gear

Potatoes can be grown in IKEA/trash bags if you have some soil.

I'm not sure it needs to be leak-proof, I had planters that had gaping holes between each plank that worked fine with old newspaper to line them to fill them up, after one season they had not lost much soil. You need drainage anyway.

@kaia In one of his television shows, Jamie Oliver cultivated potatoes in old rubber boots. Those things will grow in anything you put them in, really.
