   In my head, she has some complicated and difficult backstory — some chip on her shoulder from an old, deep wound, or something she survived, or something she used to be — that doesn’t necessarily make her more sympathetic, but that gives her chafing more dimension.

     she was so consistently mean to Data... and the way she gaslights Riker in The Icarus Factor was also yuck...

     there are so few redeeming moments for her...
