vic (vic@seal.cafe)'s status on Wednesday, 17-Jan-2024 09:33:55 JST vic @Moon Really? The last few times I looked into it, I couldn't make it past the buzzword marketing wall. That was a while ago, though...Looks like they have an actual Getting Started page prominently placed on their site.
I still don't really understand what it is, though. Their terminology seems really obtuse. "Hello yes I would like to purchase a planet" "Are you sure? Maybe you just want a comet instead" -

iced depresso (icedquinn@blob.cat)'s status on Wednesday, 17-Jan-2024 09:51:37 JST iced depresso @privateger @Moon nock and hoon were supposed to be about having some really easily verified CPU and an assembly language for that CPU. It's arguably the good part of Urbit because it's the only part that wasn't weird crypto shit from the get go.
Others have tried the same research using web assembly but those never got the funding Urbit did and went off to other projects after proving the concepts. Like one open source research thing was using WASM to prove smart contracts were executed correctly. -

Sexy Moon (moon@shitposter.club)'s status on Wednesday, 17-Jan-2024 09:53:12 JST Sexy Moon @icedquinn @privateger it had no weird crypto shit built into it ever, except that it used ethereum to verify ownership which had nothing to do with urbit operation. -

iced depresso (icedquinn@blob.cat)'s status on Wednesday, 17-Jan-2024 10:03:44 JST iced depresso @Moon @privateger I'm not entirely sure if that is true, or if people care. Ethereum already clowned itself with the DAO so I think anyone still using it is a retard when the base security guarantee has been repeatedly violated anyway. :youmusip: -
