"desire to pass tests" is a good model

Escalation Theory: Compliance, Violence, and Overachievement In Society
      from Conrad Bastable
How Elites Cause Crime By Acing Marshmallow Tests Some people think crime is caused by poverty. Some think crime is caused by criminals. Some even think crime is caused by the climate. Don’t swallow these easy-to-digest popular narratives — society is shaped by its elite, always has been, always will be. It all comes back to the marshmallows.

Nice article... For sure, education is not about retaining knowledge or problem solving, is about being obedient

@Laurel this is explained quite well in gatto's underground history of american education.

The prussian model is about primarily generating obedience and order.

Now, that can have value - but the critical thing here is what this adds - when you end up making your elite select for the most miserable ( because they are always showing their eliteness by not doing what they want ) .. what happens?

Your school is designed to know how much of mindless obedience you can endure.

I read a nice article some time ago theorizing that the system noticed that thinking robots are expensive so they are turning us into robots.

what I am curious about is the overlap between desire to pass tests and ability to pass tests.

I've known plenty of people that has very strong ability but only limited desire.
