     @autistic_enby @TimPurdum @Alice @lisamelton It’s so close! In the manner typical of LLMs, it has assembled common knowledge about all the relevant pieces, but can’t synthesize them.

     Note that it’s missed the keystone of the joke: the word “parsley” •sounds like• an adverb, and also sounds like “parse,” which is the verb for identifying the grammatical role of words in a sentence. 1/2

     @autistic_enby @TimPurdum @Alice @lisamelton The post isn’t funny just because it’s incorrect; it’s funny because it •sounds• correct — and in fact it •is• correct if we allow “parsley” to take on this novel, pun-based meaning.

     This ability to assemble and repeat relevant tidbits looks so much like what we think of as intelligence, sometimes at first we don’t spot the gaps. It looks so much like there’s a “there” there!

     @inthehands @TimPurdum @Alice @lisamelton yeah it was missing the bit that connects the two pieces of info (parsley sounding like an adverb), but I have to say even I didn't figure out that it sounds like an adverb for "parse" 😅
