I finally finished it, man Quake 4 was pretty mediocre. The black hole gun was fun but the level design is really corridor shooter at its worst.

  @Jain idtech4 games like doom 3 and prey 2006 also have really nice dark areas/stencil shadows but do suffer from the corridor shooter problem. doom 3 has a source port called dhewm 3 iirc.
