Yeah, that’s reason 1: Marketing. Cheap publicity. Positive associations for customers.
And reason number 2 is that while corporations are amoral (nonliving entities cannot have morals), some •individuals• within corporations do genuinely want to do good, and see this free marketing as a ploy to sneak in some genuinely positive social impact. That dynamic has existed in every company I’ve been involved with.
