     I am watching both full of gratitude that Institutions like the #ICJ exist, full of admiration for #SouthAfrica, but also full of fear, a lot of fear, that the case will not lead to any change in Gaza but to diminishing the power of the ICJ etc and the overall crisis of multilateralism. Let’s hope i am wrong

     @latelesley If the submissions to the Court by South Africa are found *not* to be express contraventions of the Genocide Convention, I honestly don't know how the Court, and the wider world, can live with itself.

     @fkamiah17 The whole thing is utterly horrific. Good on the South Africans for bring this to the ICJ, Someone has to step in, and stop this.

     @latelesley @statsguy @pvonhellermannn @fkamiah17 if there is an ICJ finding, it will create pressure for ICC prosecution of Isreali political and military leaders, and if that doesn't happen, it provides an even stronger legal basis under the Geneva Conventions concept of universal jurisdiction for direct prosecution of such individuals in every national court.

     @statsguy @pvonhellermannn @fkamiah17 This is true. But it would at least ramp up massive political pressure in Netanyahu, and open the door to sanctions on Israel.

     And indeed even if the verdict goes against Israel, it's hard to see what it would change on the ground. Surely Israel will just ignore the ruling, and without the US on board, I can't see how the ICJ could possibly enforce it.
