you know what the worst thing is.... I think that would make me sleep later. I normally use fiction books to sleep nowadays

ok idk how y'all sleep at a regular time tho. sleep is *never* the most interesting thing I could be doing at any time and I never get sleepy until like 2 or 3am...
in the context of the trip that I'm on, I usually sleep later bc the night is the only time I have to myself and I need time to myself every day... but still even in general during school this kinda happens
@shibao oh oh Philosophy books make me fall asleep immediately tho bc they actually take so much thought ever single sentence for no reason
@mischievoustomato @tiskaan @shibao what do you mean you feel trapped? I'm curious. I used to be an existentialist andy who read a lot of Camus and loved Viktor Frankl. honestly as cliche and techbro-coded as it is, I really enjoyed reading the stoics and existentialists.
nowadays I've moved away from that more towards philosophy of science and language but the early stuff I read really helped me better grasp my relationship to meaning and the world
@mischievoustomato @tiskaan @shibao it often is... there are some good works that aren't pretentious but for the most part I think I read pretentious works and do my best to translate it into metaphors that make sense.
I think it is far too easy to say that pretentious philosophy is all sophistry with no content. I think that's false but I also think it is needlessly difficult to comprehend often.
any interested layperson can understand any interesting philosophical concept.
