I like the measured optimism in @mmasnick 's new year greeting, pushing back against Marc Andreesen's "all regulation is bad" essay.

Possibly interesting analogy: improved brakes was the technology that gave us faster cars. Before brakes improved, cars could only safely drive 20-ish km/h. Safety measures is very much a necessary part of accelerating technology.
