   @unseenjapan I lived in North #India for five years and barely learned Hindi.

   It was partially that I worked at a university with lots of international people so English was the lingua franca. And many of the privileged spaces I lived and worked in had English as the language.

   I got a lot out of my time there but I realize how much I didn't experience because I had no local language.

   I echo what @bookstardust said - learning a language is really, really hard. Especially as an adult.
