      Paris syndrome
Paris syndrome is a cluster of psychiatric symptoms exhibited by some individuals when visiting Paris, that can be viewed as a severe form of culture shock. The syndrome is characterized by symptoms such as acute delusional states, hallucinations, feelings of persecution (perceptions of being a victim of prejudice, aggression, hostility from others), derealization, depersonalization, anxiety, as well as psychosomatic manifestations such as dizziness, tachycardia, sweating most notably, but also others, such as vomiting. While the syndrome has been particularly noted among Japanese tourists, perhaps due to the way in which Paris has been idealised in Japanese culture, the syndrome has also affected travellers from other countries such as China, South Korea, and Singapore. History Hiroaki Ota, a Japanese psychiatrist working at the Sainte-Anne Hospital Center in France, coined the term in the 1980s and published a book of the same name in 1991. Katada Tamami of Nissei Hospital wrote of a Japanese patient with manic-depression who experienced Paris syndrome in 1998.Later work by Youcef...

@Kang_Kong3 Why do you guys always go there. Why can't you at least be fair and recognize a situation where it's white people that are the problem? It's France my man, a place known to be fully of uppity, rude white people that let their dogs shit everywhere.

@alex The old parisienne was indeed known for their hauteur, snobbery and arrogance.
The new parisienne can be seen in the wake of every football game at stade de france or after any international tournament.
The Director of cult classic Amelie has said he couldn't make a film that portrays the beauty of the city any more.
If it's not the demographics that have changed the city so much, what is it?

@Kang_Kong3 This article is about a term coined in the 1980s to describe the experience of Japanese people visiting Paris.

The French can do strange things to an American's brain. Like Americans will smile and greet a stranger for no reason and expect them to pretend to be pleased to see them, and of course if they try this shit on the French they'll just get scowled at and wonder why. Not sure if this is relevant to the Japanese experience
