I can see why people like ChatGPT. I asked it “What would happen if I stuck my dick in the Large Hadron Collider?” and it gave me a very detailed and plausible sounding answer, whereas CERN didn’t even reply to my email.

gnutelephony (gnutelephony@floss.social)'s status on Saturday, 06-Jan-2024 22:45:59 JST gnutelephony @mathew the sad thing is you can often be completely ignored asking even useful or important questions, like how can I get orca to work on wayland on fedora ?37? (at the time nobody wanted to say you can't because Wayland is so broken so they just ignored it and I was unable to use that system having made the mistake of trying Fedora on it right before becoming blind), but poor ai has to at least give you some kind of answer. Sometimes a bad one is better than none.

gnutelephony (gnutelephony@floss.social)'s status on Saturday, 06-Jan-2024 23:46:13 JST gnutelephony @mathew it was the getting no help from anyone at all, whether here or anywhere else, that pissed me off most, by far, or with any other things since loosing my sight, too. I decided to scrap everything at the end of last year, and actually deleted all my repos, too. It was not even noticed, other than I no longer get junk mail from recruiters, from what I can tell. I already had decided not to do anything this year Linux related. Just too much pain now, time to move on.

mathew (mathew@universeodon.com)'s status on Saturday, 06-Jan-2024 23:46:15 JST mathew @gnutelephony About a year ago when I was still using Linux as my work desktop, Fedora went through a whole patch of brokenness. After each update one of X11 or Wayland would generally be broken; typically after the screen powered down it wouldn’t power up again. I used to log in after each update, open a terminal and get the reboot command ready, trigger screen off, see if it would turn on again, and if not hit enter to reboot and switch window system.
